Who can Access GoWYLD Resources?

Most of the resources linked from the GoWYLD research and discovery pages are available for any Wyoming citizen or are freely available to anyone. Premium, licensed products are also available for use without authentication from within WYLDCAT member libraries, all public k-12, and academic institutions. Most of the licensed products are also available to home users with two exceptions. Ancestry Library Edition is not available for home or remote use. HeinOnline is only available for a limited number of public libraries, the State Library, and the Wyoming State Law Library. [see list here]. In all of these cases, there are notes indicating these restrictions on use in the database description area for each product on GoWYLD.

My library has other resources that are not on GoWYLD. How do I access those?

The State Library provides authentication (proxying) services for remote users with WYLD member library cards. However, all community colleges and the University of Wyoming provide authentication for their students. If your library licenses a product locally, and you wish to provide remote access to your users, contact the WYLD Support Team at 307-777-6954 for details on setting up proxying. You may also email support @ wyldnetwork.org for more information.

When a user from your library logs in to the State Library proxy server they will be directed to a special page listing resources available to the library where their patron profile is linked. For this reason, it is very important that libraries remember to update patron profiles when overlaying library cards from other counties.

It is recommended that libraries have a resources page on their own website with links to their individual resources as well as links to GoWYLD.


What do we do when if there are technical problems with one of the resources? E.g. authentication, site is down, etc.

If you are asked for a username and password or library card and pin, and you are in a site that should not have to provide credentials, please contact the WYLD Support Team at wyldstaff @ will.state.wy.us or 307-777-6954. Authentication is based on IP addressing to assure that we are honoring the license agreements with vendors for their products. If your Internet Service Provider has made changes to your network that result in an IP change, you may not be able to access licensed products. The process to update this information is usually 2-3 business days. If you know in advance that your library's addressing will be changing, it is helpful to let us know as soon as possible to reduce the amount of time you will not have access.

If vendors notify us that they have scheduled downtime, we email that information to the WYLDNEWS listserv. If it is a significant technical issue, a notice will be posted on the GoWYLD announcements page as well. For unexpected technical issues, you may call the WYLD Support team Mon-Fri 8am - 5pm. Vendors recognize the State Library as the point of contact for contractual and technical issues for most of the statewide products, therefore it is best to contact the State Library first, rather than contacting the vendor directly. Your library will need to contact vendors for issues with products that you have licensed individually.
