[Cloud Library users] [Freading users]

Cloud Library Users: A Cloud book will automatically expire at the end of the checkout period, but you can return a book early.

Return a book early with the mobile apps

When you return a book early from any of the mobile apps, the digital file will be removed from your device and your Cloud account will no longer show the book as checked out.

  1. Tap on the main menu in the mobile app
  2. Select 'My Books'
  3. Tap on the red 'Return' button next to the book

* Any time you are viewing the detailed information view of a book, you have the opportunity to 'Check In' the title.

Return a book early with the PC or MacOS App

  1. Open the PC or MacOS App and select the 'My Books' tab
  2. Change the view to 'List View'
  3. Tap on the 'Return' button

Books are saved in the My Documents > My Digital Editions folder (by default) on your computer.

When a book expires or is returned early it will be removed from the My Digital Editions folder.

If you delete a book from the My Digital Editions folder on your computer, it will not delete it from your Cloud account.

Deleting a book from an eReading device, e.g. Nook or Sony reader.

Most devices include library management software that will allow you to delete directly from the device.

You can also use Adobe Digital Editions to manage the books on your device

Open Adobe Digital Editions, then connect the reader to your computer with its USB cable.

Go to the Library View and then click on the reader's name (beneath the bookshelves). You will see a list of books that you have downloaded the device.

Click the small triangle to the left of the title, then select 'Delete item'.

Freading users:
Expired books will remain on devices and in Adobe Digital Editions, so it is good practice to remove them from time to time.

Delete a book from Adobe Digital Editions

Open the library view in Digital Editions.

Click on the arrow to the left of the title of the book.

Click on 'return borrowed item' or 'delete item'.

Close Digital Editions and then check the Documents > My Digital Editions folder on your PC to see if the file or jacket cover images remain. It is safe to remove these if you are finished with the book.

Deleting books from reading apps on mobile devices

If you are using the Freading app for iOS (iPad, iPhone, etc) open the Freading app and select the home view. Tap and swipe across the title. Select 'delete' to remove the item.

If you are using the Kindle Fire app for Freading: To remove a book you have finished, open the app and go to the library view. Tap and hold the title in the library view until the book options menu appears. Select delete to remove it. Deleting the title within the app will remove it from the device. If you wish to manually delete titles (not using the app), the app stores them in the Digital Editions folder. Thumbnails of cover art are stored in the Digital Editions > Thumbnails folder and are not always deleted when the book is deleted. Connect the Fire to your PC and use Windows Explorer to open the Digital Editions folder to view and manage these files.
